Protect Oregon Driver Licenses - vote no on ballot question 88 - on SB 833 giving illegal aliens drivers licenses
Ballot Measure 88 goes down in flames! Nearly 1 million Oregon voters said NO on 88!
Protect Oregon Driver Licenses - PODL - and volunteers throughout Oregon and across the country worked for over a year to overturn SB 833 - a law passed by the Oregon Legislature that would legitimize the presence of illegal aliens in Oregon by granting them highly coveted state issued ID in the form of a driver card. The bill was passed by the Oregon legislature and signed into law May 1, 2013.
PODL filed a citizens veto referendum to overturn the new law. Petition signatures were accepted by the Secretary of State's office and Senate Bill 833 - referred to as Ballot Measure 88 - was on the general election ballot in November 2014.
Ballot Measure 88 was soundly defeated by over 66% of Oregon voters - with nearly a 2:1 margin. In 29 of Oregon's 36 counties Measure 88 was defeated by a greater than 70% NO vote. The voters have spoken and this law will now be dismissed to the archives of bad legislation.

FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions about driver licenses for illegal aliens
|
Did you know?
Those who support giving driver cards to illegal aliens claim that having a driver card will then allow illegal aliens to buy auto insurance, reducing the number of uninsured drivers.
The fact is: Illegal aliens can already buy car insurance - but most often choose not to, or purchase a short term policy and let it lapse. New Mexico, which has granted driver licenses to illegal aliens since 2003, continues to rank near the top of the list of states with the most uninsured drivers.
The truth is: Ballot Measure 88 states only that "Drivers will need to... follow current Oregon law regarding proof of insurance." Which refers only to applicants taking the road test - there must be proof of insurance for the car in which they're tested - that is the only requirement for insurance!
An applicant can borrow a car that is insured, take their driving test and walk out the door with a state issued ID - and never purchase car insurance. Sixty-six percent of Oregon voters defeated driver cards by voting NO on 88. Read more.
